Creature baits resemble small crustaceans, a staple food source of ballan wrasse.
When using creature baits, work them really slowly with a combination of small flicks and pauses, ensuring that they stay on or very near to the bottom. My favoured rig is the Texas, using a glass bead in-between the weight and the hook, which generates a clicking sound as the weight strikes the bead against the hook.
Cover the ground out to sea as well as working the creatures slowly through any flooding gullies.
Ensure you work the baits all the way back, as quite often wrasse will be patrolling very close in, often along the edge of the rock you are stood on.
Wrasse generally favour dark, natural colours such as black, red, brown and green, although carrying a few brighter colours can be beneficial if the water is coloured.
